A veteran of the rail industry, Mr. Peterson has a deep understanding of railroad operations, specializing in train and vehicle dynamics; safety, rules, and operations; and accident/incident case analysis and simulations.
Mr. Peterson has three decades of experience performing derailment and accident investigations, railroad operating practices and safety studies, train and vehicle dynamic studies, mechanical inspections, physical testing, and railroad training. He is an experienced user of simulation tools such as the AAR’s Train Operations Simulator (TOS), Train Operations and Energy Simulator (TOES), and New and Untried Car Analytic Regime Simulation (NUCARS).
Combined with his practical experience in derailment investigation, Mr. Peterson has worked with several international and all of North America’s leading rail companies to provide expert analysis of railroad operations issues; perform train and vehicle dynamic studies, mechanical inspections, and physical testing; conduct training in railroad safety, rules, and operating practices; and perform operational and safety audits. Mr. Peterson also provides clients with consulting and/or testifying expert services in railroad mechanical, operating, and engineering disciplines, from accident/incident response through case analysis and report preparation.
Well-versed in railroad safety and compliance, Mr. Peterson provides a full range of rail safety and compliance-related services, including operations/safety audits and training. He is an active Operating/Safety Officer at several shortline railroads, and is a certified conductor, locomotive engineer, and Designated Supervisor of Locomotive Engineers.
